What is Lumapps Group?
Lumapps Group is an employee experience platform, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Lyon, France. Its customer base is mainly in EMEA, but in recent years it has been focusing increasingly on expanding into North America. Lumapps Group is best suited to midsize and large organizations.
Lumapps has always grown its functionality via acquisitions rather than building from scratch, and in July 2025 it announced that it is to merge with Beekeeper, an Employee Communications App (ECA) based in Switzerland. Going forwards, Lumapps and Beekeeper will be known collectively as Lumapps Group. Lumapps’s product offering has always been stronger for desk-based employees, with some gaps in its mobile offering. The merger with Beekeeper – who is focused entirely on serving frontline-heavy orgs – will therefore significantly expand Lumapps’s abilities to serve both desk-based and frontline employees equally.
Why might organizations consider Lumapps Group for their intranet or EXP?
As a strong partner of Google Cloud, Lumapps moved early on to corner the Google Workplace market and quickly became the EXP-of-choice for Google shops (other vendors, including Unily, have since caught up).
Unite your people & tech with Unily's most sophisticated Google Workspace intranet
Learn moreLumapps is strong on traditional intranet features for desk-based employees, and has some good options around extensibility and customization that other, simpler and quicker-to-implement EXPs may not match. Lumapps is also well-funded, and enjoys a solid customer base in EMEA – though it has been slow to expand to North America.
Now of course, with the addition of Beekeeper, the new ‘Lumapps Group’ will enter a transitional phase where the two features sets merge, and some overlapping functionality may be retired. This means that some existing Luampps and Beekeeper customers may face a period of uncertainty.
At-a-glance pros and cons
Here are some high-level pros and cons potential buyers might want to consider:
Lumapps Group Pros
- Good integrations with both Google Workspace and MS365.
- Learning Management System available (Teach on Mars).
- Strong video features with Lumapps Play. Good choice for enterprises that use video for comms frequently.
- Strong technical documentation and design library for customers that want to extend their platform.
Lumapps Group Cons
- Time-to-value can be slow, with long setup and implementation periods.
- May require heavy customization and governance overhead, sometimes with the use of third-party designers and consultants.
- CMS structure means Lumapps can struggle to target content to different types of employees, or geographically dispersed teams.
- Translations outside of English may not always be consistent, especially across both desktop and mobile.
Lumapps Group vs Unily: Features Comparison
The biggest difference between Unily and Lumapps Group is that Unily is built from the ground up, configured so that all features and functionality work seamlessly together to drive value from day one. Lumapps Group has grown by acquisitions, which have had to be integrated into the wider product suite.
This is reflected when comparing the features and functionality of the two.

Unily as a LumApps Group Alternative
1. A truly unified platform – no wait required
Unily delivers a single, end-to-end employee experience platform that supports internal communications, social collaboration, content management, knowledge sharing, and automation.
There’s no need to wait for merged systems or dual admin centers – Unily is cohesive, configurable, and scalable out of the box.
2. Built for the entire workforce from day one
Unlike LumApps and Beekeeper (originally built for different workforce segments) Unily was engineered from the ground up to serve both desk-based and frontline users. This means:
- One seamless user experience
- Optimized mobile performance
- Offline access and push notifications
- Configurable interfaces by job role
It also means that Unily offers a joined-up experience and consistency for both frontline and desk-based workers, when the perils of treating both groups as separate entities have been well documented:

This guide explores the cases when a simple ECA may actually exacerbate the divide between frontline and desk-based workers – and what enterprises can do about it.
Learn more3. Superior content structuring, personalization and targeting
Unily leads with intelligent content targeting—based on attributes like department, region, seniority, language, behaviour, and engagement history. All of these are driven by consistently and accurately pulling from HR and people data attributes, such as in Azure AD Groups. This enables:
- Highly relevant comms
- Reduced noise
- Increased adoption and trust
Also, Unily’s hierarchical content tree (CMS) has been built over time to serve large enterprises. This means that not only is targeting content easy, but that getting information to geographically dispersed and cross-functional teams is also seamless.
By contrast, Lumapps customers often find that multiple, separate CMSs are required for different sites. This means a duplication of effort, and that ultimately getting information in front of the right employees at the right time, takes longer.
4. Enterprise-ready integrations
From Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace to Workday, ServiceNow, Salesforce, and custom APIs, Unily connects with the tools your people already use. Integrations power productivity—embedding workflows, surfacing critical data, and automating tasks within the employee experience layer. Unily also offers additional widgets from its Feature Store, which hosts an un rivalled 200+ options, all ready to plug-and-play.
So while LumApps Group offers solid Google and Microsoft integrations, broader enterprise system support remains somewhat behind.
5. Governance at scale
Unily includes advanced governance tools tailored for global enterprises, including:
- Role-based access control, including security roles
- Smart workflows and approvals
- Auto-expiring content
- Analytics to flag stale content
Governance across the LumApps Group varies depending on the platform component in use, creating risk for organizations that demand precision and control. Certainly, merging the combined functionality of Lumapps and Beekeeper will require a significant overhaul of current governance structures.
6. Insightful analytics, measurable ROI
Unily’s powerful analytics suite surfaces platform usage, campaign impact, content reach, and workforce engagement - all from a single dashboard. Combine that with an average 385% ROI, and you get a measurable, strategic advantage.
LumApps Group offers analytics as well, but some customers find themselves using additional, third party tools to surface the depth of insights needed. Of course, it will be a while before unified, actionable insights across both merged platforms are available.

When to choose Lumapps Group
The LumApps Group may suit your needs if you’re excited about the vision of a joint Lumapps-Beekeeper offering, and an ‘AI-powered Employee Experience Hub’ – when it’s ready. Lumapps Group will also be a good fit if you’re comfortable with a modular platform that evolves over time, and your organization has a relatively uniform structure with consistent employee needs (although, of course, this will evolve as the merger becomes operationalized).
When to choose Unily
If you want a single, unified and cohesive platform that’s ready to go and able to deliver value from day one, Unily will be the better fit. If your organization is globally dispersed, and you have a complex structure with multiple nuanced roles and employee languages in play, Unily will serve you well. Likewise if brand identity, look and feel, and specific elements of navigation or UI are crucial for your business, Unily will better be able to serve these customization needs without the need to involve third party designers.
