The challenge
With macroeconomic developments redefining work arrangements, a greater emphasis has been placed on asynchronous work, real-time collaboration, and the management of a global workforce to align with the company’s corporate strategy and vision. The challenge for Wipro was to equip a diverse, geographically spread workforce with the tools they needed to be effective in their work, keep them updated on innovations, and foster connections and belonging.

Wipro’s uniqueness is that a large part of its associates work in customer ecosystems. These
associates are often embedded deep within customer organizations, which means Wipro
needs to engage them effectively, through strategic alignment and in futuristic initiatives,

Streamlining communications to reduce noise
Wipro launched a unified Employee Experience Platform called The Dot, and Varsha Anand, Global Head, Employee Communications and Employer Branding, says a key aim was to simplify communication.
“We knew we needed to engage associates. We needed a unified platform for associates to
communicate, interact with each other, and engage with leadership. In short, we needed one source of truth for associates.”
Wipro’s ‘Dot-first’ strategy sees all C-suite messages, strategic organizational initiatives, and employee engagement events go through the platform. Unlike traditional intranets, Unily’s easy to use EXP comes with a user-friendly CMS, enabling companies to focus on content rather than coding. This enables seamless, faster delivery of strategic information and creates a more agile culture.
Meanwhile, the personalization features have helped Wipro engage employees across the globe in their own languages. This also means content can be tailored based on people’s needs. The Dot is currently organized by Strategic Initiatives, Business Units, and Functions with multiple sub-functions — all with individual updates, initiatives, knowledge resources, and more.

Enhancing engagement throughout the employee lifecycle
With Unily being an end-to-end platform, Wipro has created a culture of engagement at every stage of the employee lifecycle, via personalized audiences, dedicated social communities, and Employee Journeys. For example, new hires see a customized homepage and hub for the first 90 days, while regular polls let associates get involved in company decision-making. Wipro also leverages 80 communities to engage its large employee groups, which are designed based on interests, locations, and hobbies as well as business requirements like consulting, job search, and AI.

With research by Gallup showing that managers are responsible for 70% of the variance in employee engagement. Wipro leveraged Employee Journey, to engage this group, with managers placed on a personalized, automated journey that nudges them to join a dedicated community. This is where strategic business information is shared first, along with resources for manager upskilling, training, and more. Within the first week of launch, 50% of managers signed up and followed the community, which has seen consistent high engagement and dialogue over the months.

Sharing knowledge and boosting collaboration
One of the big changes Wipro has seen is greater collaboration and knowledge sharing. A key reason is the People Directory feature, which allows associates to search and filter through everyone within the company – not just by name and location, but by skillset and knowledge.

“With a globally dispersed workforce, it can be difficult to know who is who and where they are located outside of your direct team. The People Directory is one of the most used pages within The Dot, with comprehensive and intuitive filters that allow users to find colleagues in different countries, teams, roles, and more. It means associates are able to come together and collaborate on projects they previously wouldn’t have known about.”

All of Wipro’s policies are also available in a single space on The Dot. Associates have complete access to the ones relevant to them or their team members and can easily navigate through intuitive filters. The Policy Hub integrates with Wipro’s AI assistant, WiNow, to offer personalized responses to employee queries on specific policies. Additionally, it allows employees to act based on the response, such as applying for leave according to the leave policy.
The same is true for AI training courses, sales assets, and behavioral learning courses-available at an associate’s fingertips, organized in dedicated sites and hubs maintained and updated by subject matter experts.

Powering productivity by connecting talent and technology
Unily’s integrations framework brings together all the information and tools a workforce needs. For Wipro, this means the entire company has moved towards a “self-help” mindset, with knowledge, people, and over 100 applications - including employee task lists - are all directly accessible via The Dot.
The AI-generated summary feature has improved productivity by providing quick highlights of
content, while the AI-enabled content publishing assistant has enhanced and streamlined
content creation. Additionally, the AI Sentiment Analysis dashboard helps gauge employee
sentiment to policies and initiatives introduced by the company. This helps program owners in future decision making and enhancements.
Wipro also has a floating AI-powered assistant on The Dot screens to boost efficiency. The AI
agent helps associates with multiple day-to-day tasks, including timesheet filling, workspace
booking, applying for leave, and getting answers to HR or IT-related questions.
The results
The efficiency Unily has brought is clear, with Wipro able to capture value of $20million every year. This is calculated based on the time savings and productivity improvements made by every associate, and their impact per year.
Adoption was another key metric for Wipro. In the first 9 months, The Dot had an average of
220,000 unique visitors, with over 12,000 pieces of unique content created. Today, The Dot
enjoys a 95% average engagement month-on-month, and an employee survey at the one year mark revealed an 87% satisfaction rate.
