SCIM provisioning - Make identity changes feel effortless

Introduced in the unily V21 Release, SCIM provisioning removes incorrect or outdated user access, improves targeting accuracy, and supports stronger security without adding manual work for IT teams.

V21 Release: SCIM provisioning - Make identity changes feel effortless

In every organization, change is constant. People join. People move teams. Roles evolve. Contractors rotate. Employees leave.

Behind the scenes, every one of those changes creates a ripple effect across your SaaS estate, especially the digital workplace. If identity data isn’t current, the employee experience suffers. People can’t access what they need on day one. Targeting becomes unreliable. The wrong audiences see the wrong content. And worst of all, access can remain active when it shouldn’t.

That’s why Unily V21 introduces SCIM Provisioning, a standards-based way to keep Unily users aligned with your identity provider, automatically.

The modern identity challenge: accuracy, speed, and security at the same time

Manual provisioning isn’t just slow. It’s unpredictable. It’s why IT teams end up fielding avoidable access tickets, and why comms teams sometimes lose confidence in segmentation.

It’s also a security concern. If offboarding is delayed, or if access changes aren’t consistently applied, risk increases quietly in the background. In large enterprises, small identity gaps become systemic problems.

SCIM is designed to remove that drift by making your identity provider the source of truth, and keeping Unily in sync as change happens.

What SCIM actually is (and why it’s different)

SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) is an industry standard used by identity providers such as Microsoft Entra ID and Okta to manage user lifecycle across applications in a consistent, predictable way.

Once SCIM is configured, your identity provider can send standardised instructions to Unily to:

  • create accounts for joiners

  • update user attributes as roles change (e.g., department, title, location)

  • deactivate access for leavers

Instead of relying on manual updates or periodic data syncs, SCIM gives you a cleaner, more reliable model that aligns Unily identity with your existing identity layer.

Just as importantly: SCIM doesn’t bypass governance. It respects the permissions and access model you already have in place. It doesn’t create new privileges or broaden access. It helps keep what you intend accurate and current

Why we’re releasing it in Preview

We’re launching SCIM provisioning as a Preview capability in Unily V21  because we want customers to test it early and help shape what comes next. The best lifecycle management solutions are built around real-world conditions: organisational complexity, exceptions, edge cases, and what “good” looks like for different IT and platform teams.

Preview is the stage where feedback is most valuable, especially around:

  • setup experience in real environments

  • joiner/mover/leaver workflows at scale

  • operational expectations (cadence, handling changes, and confidence over time)

If you’re interested in participating, talk to your Unily contact about enabling SCIM provisioning and sharing feedback.

Why it matters: the practical impact

SCIM provisioning helps organizations:

  • accelerate onboarding so new employees get access faster

  • improve offboarding reliability to reduce lingering access risk

  • keep audiences accurate so targeting and personalisation remain dependable

  • reduce admin overhead by removing repeated manual provisioning work

Use cases that show immediate value

  • Day-one access: provision Unily users from your identity provider as soon as accounts are created.

  • Leaver deprovisioning: ensure access is deactivated promptly when someone leaves.

  • Cleaner governance for segmentation: increase confidence that the right people see the right experiences, consistently.

The bottom line

SCIM provisioning helps make identity a dependable layer of your digital workplace, so access stays accurate, secure, and scalable as your organization changes.
