Session Overview
ASML builds the machines that make the world’s most advanced microchips, and its success depends on people across more than 60 locations finding and trusting knowledge fast. When chip demand surged during COVID, the company onboarded more than 11,000 people in two years, many of whom couldn’t go into an office. Its intranet couldn’t keep up, and outdated content had worn away employees’ trust in it.
In this panel hosted by Jane Golding of Unily, Saskia Boeije and Janneke Reijnders (ASML) explain why the answer was to embed the intranet as a business-critical platform. They repositioned it as a “lighthouse” where employees start their day and get their bearings before moving on to their work. Then they backed it with a governance model built on clear ownership, regular reviews, and a balance between central control and local choice the team calls “controlled freedom.”
This session also explores why that discipline matters more than ever - as AI changes how employees find information, governed content is what separates useful answers from noise. Saskia and Janneke also share hard-won lessons, from bringing stakeholders with them to building a model that holds up in the busiest periods. And they explain why ASML now judges success by how little time people spend on the intranet, rather than how much.
