How will Delve enhance the Office 365 experience?

The SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas earlier this year seems a long time ago now, but one announcement I can still clearly recall - and to be fair it's often hard to recall much from LV - was Microsoft announcing Delve (code-named Oslo back then).

I remember coming away from the SharePoint Conference thinking that Oslo was probably the most innovative solution I'd seen over that week. The gap between consumer and corporate information targeting has been closing over time but this really was a quantum leap. In addition to the Delve Apps, they were also releasing a set of API's which would allow us to surface this great content in our applications - and as an engineer at heart, this probably excited me more than the Apps!

So here we are months later and Delve is with us, it's an early version but the future looks very promising. Delve is all about surfacing Office 365 content that is relevant to you, what's trending around you and how you are connected to colleagues. It makes building relationships simpler by joining dots you wouldn't normally see and takes content sharing to a whole new level.

Underpinning Delve is Office Graph, which essentially is a map of relationships across application, social and content boundaries. It uses Machine Learning to understand and predict those relationships resulting in content that is not only based upon what you are currently working on, but what you may need in the future. Office Graph is accessible via the increasingly rich set of Office 365 API's.

This is very exciting news for us. Unily is all about enhanced Office 365 User Experience. When I say UX, I'm not just talking about the beautiful User Interface we have, it's also very much about relevant content. Office Graph and Unily really is a match made in heaven. Never before has such a rich set of API's and data been available to consumers of Office 365 and here in the Unily team we are already incorporating exciting new Office Graph and Delve features into both the desktop and mobile apps. You can look forward to next-generation search and discovery completely embedded into your intranet both at the desk and on the move.
